PI's Turn 50!

Published Wed 09 Aug 2023

PI’s Softball Club, one of the region’s longest established and respected sporting institutions, celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Utakarra Softball clubrooms. The Postal Institute Softball Club was formed in 1973 and continue to be strong force in Women’s Softball in Geraldton! Close to 100 guests including representatives from all the era’s of PI’s Softball, were on hand this past Saturday to celebrate the amazing milestone.

Patrons were blasted back in time with the organisers doing an incredible job of displaying the club’s history. Among the highlights were exhibits showcasing past winning teams, vintage uniforms, and memorabilia from landmark events that had shaped PI’s identity throughout its lifetime.

The 50th anniversary celebrations were not just a chance to look back but also to look forward to the promising future and created an opportunity for members from different decades to compare notes on who performed best on and off the diamond!

Event organiser Natalie Wisewould said: “It was so good to have past life members and members turn up to our 50th anniversary. “Lots of old stories from the past, not too many about what went on the diamond, but all the good times had after the games, where lifelong friendships are made.”

PI’s player Ruth Douglas was overjoyed with the turnout. “What a fantastic turnout last night, we had 13 life members there last night, a few past players and also present players. Lots of stories told, lots of past history on display,” she said. “Fifty years is such a huge achievement in any sporting club.”

Congratulations to all involved on a fabulous night, a remarkable achievement, and a great contributor to Geraldton Softball!
