2024 June Carnival

Published Mon 03 Jun 2024

We recently held the 49th GSA June Carnival over the June Long Weekend, and what an event it was! Hosting 50 teams across six divisions, we saw a total of 182 games of softball played despite Sunday morning’s rain showers. The competitive spirit was high, and it was fantastic to witness such great competition throughout the weekend.

This year, we had the honor of naming our Division 1 trophy after our recently passed Life Member, Denise Bell. Rockingham emerged as the inaugural winners of the Denise Bell Trophy, defeating local side Midwest Marlins in the Grand Final. Denise’s daughter, Rona, was present to award the trophy to the deserving champions.

From a local perspective, it was thrilling to see a combination of local talent reach the Final and compete at a high level. We had the GSA represented by 9 sides as well as many other members playing across different combined sides.

Other division winners were: Division 2 - Base Invaders, Division 3 - Fremantle Rebels, Division 4 - Jaguars Black, Division 5 - Bandits, and Division 6 - Shieldmaidens.

We extend a huge shoutout to our hardworking volunteers, including our June Carnival committee members, umpires, grounds crew, and everyone who contributed to making this carnival a success. Special thanks to the businesses and organizations that provided equipment or sponsorship, including Geraldton Party Hire, Wintersun Hotel, PFD Foods, Cons Liquor, SportsFirst and Kennards Hire. We also acknowledge the City of Greater Geraldton for their generous $5k grant as part of their Community Grants Program.

We hope everyone enjoyed the entertainment, including a live duo on Saturday night and a DJ for our finals on Sunday evening. We are always looking for ways to improve the atmosphere and entertainment for future carnivals.

Thank you to everyone who attended. We look forward to celebrating the 50th GSA June Carnival in 2025!
